Tell us a little bit about yourself! When did you discover your love for music?
I first discovered my love for music in my household at a very young age. Being around family, there was music playing constantly. I noticed everyone had their own personal soundtrack, which typically set the mood for the current moment. I was mainly exposed to Hip Hop and Rap music, which became my favorite genres. I remember hearing a lot of NWA, 2Pac, Slick Rick, Snoop and many others.
From your bio, we know that you wrote your first song in the 1st grade. What was this song about? Did you ever release it?
Yes, that is true. The song was called “Little Bit”, which was about a grade school crush. My Uncle Terry, whom was an aspiring rapper at the time, actually came up with the idea for me and my brother to do a song. When my uncle sat us both down to start creating, to his surprise, I actually ended up writing the majority of the lyrics. I had no idea what i was doing, just a kid having fun. Unfortunately, that smash hit was never released lol.
How has living near Atlanta inspired your music and shaped your musical career?
It has given me the upmost confidence to be myself and express my creativity however I feel. In Atlanta, artists' self-esteem has always been extremely high and it translates through the music, art and culture of the city. Atl has also shown me that being too trendy with your music, can bring huge success but only for a very short period of time. With so many creative crowds throughout the city and different types of music being made; I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with some really dope musicians that force me to push myself and think outside the box. Atlanta has shown me to keep pushing hard and your moment will come to shine. Here we see locals turn to celebrities and successful artists all the time.
What has been your favorite performance so far, and why? It’s hard to think of 1 favorite, but there is 1 performance that sticks out to me. This would probably be a nightmare for most artists, however, it was a learning experience for me. I performed in front of a crowd of about 10 people (3 of them came with me). Although the crowd was small, it didn’t stop me from giving my all. I treated the opportunity as a live rehearsal and a chance to try out some new things. That approach turned out to be beneficial and led to multiple performance opportunities in the future. It showed me, it doesn’t always matter how many people are in the room but who is in the room. Always give 100%, you never know who’s watching! We have seen a number of your creative music videos. Which music video is your favorite and why? Where was it filmed? What message do you want your fans to take away from this video?
Currently my favorite video would have to be “N My Day”. It is an storytelling video that is very personal to me: with clips from my past, to where I am currently and where my future is headed. The video was filmed in Atlanta at my home, at the job I had at the time and during a performance I did that evening. I want my fans to watch the video and see that I am just like them. I don’t have to be flashy and its ok, I have obstacles and struggles to overcome like everyone else. To no matter what, remember and remind yourself who are, how far you have come and there’s much further to go.
How did you come across your home label New Liberty A&M? Being signed to a collective label, do you feel other artists from this label have shaped you as a artist?
New Liberty A&M (NLAM) is a company I started with some friends to give all affiliated artists support and freedom to express themselves openly through their art and media outlets. It is definitely safe to say these individuals have had a hand in shaping me as an artist: from music, videos, artwork, social media, fashion, etc.
What can we expect to see from you in the rest of 2018 and beyond?
The rest of 2018 you can expect more videos, music, performances and appearances from me. I have a new project titled "Imperial Flow", which is some of my best work to date, it's almost complete and will drop before the year is up. I also have a couple other joint projects with other artists coming. That’s all I can really say right now, can’t let out too many details. As far as Beyond goes…expect some huge records, collabs, bigger shows, growth in my worldwide exposure and some charity ventures to give back.
