ELJURI
Genre : Latin
Location : New York City, New York
/
Eljuri is an Ecuadorian singer-songwriter/guitarist whose music is a mirror on this generation’s global fusion reflecting her Spanish and Lebanese heritage, the rhythms of her homeland, Ecuador, and the punk and rock & roll from the melting pot of her youth in New York City. Eljuri filters the daily cacophony of the streets into beautiful music with vital meaning. She floats, indeed soars to heights unreached by any other Latina electric guitarist.
Eljuri creates a sonic reflecting pool. This energizing musician and performer absorbs drops of influence from all over the world, from cultures that she calls her own and others into which she dives to discover their treasures. Her music is sometimes a mirror lake reflecting this generation’s global fusion and sometimes a turbulent sea churning with cultural clashes.

Eljuri has continued to perfect and refine her original sound throughout her extensive career. On, her third solo production, ‘La Lucha’, Cecilia Villar Eljuri demonstrates her maturity as an award-winning songwriter; not afraid to explore different rhythmic horizons. Touted as one of the best female guitar players in the world, she has developed her personal guitar style influenced by the likes of greats including Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, Nancy Wilson, BB King and Bonnie Raitt. Accompanied by her guitar, Eljuri navigates through musical landscapes ranging from rock and pop-punk, to bolero, reggae, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, all presented with an elegant and empowered female voice.

Cecilia Villar Eljuri was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and raised in New York City. From a young age she was immersed in music and the arts, demonstrating a singular focus for her passion. Sensitive and committed, of Latin blood and heart, this passionate singer, song-writer and guitarist has toured all over North and South America.

Since 2008, Eljuri has performed on world renowned stages; at Vive Latino, Mexico’s most celebrated music festival (250,000 attendance); the Prismatic Festival; the Luminato Festival (2015 Canadian debut); the Houston iFest (with Los Lonely Boys, War and Steel Pulse); at Chicago’s famed Millenium Park where the Chicago Sun Timesproclaimed “Eljuri among the best bets, at the Viva Chicago Music Festival”; and at the 2015 Mujeres Al Frente Fest in Guadalajara, Mexico (Festival Headliner).
