Calid B.
Genre : Hip Hop
Location : Chicago, Illinois
/
Calid B. is a Chicago based triple threat as a producer/emcee/DJ that is pioneering his own sound in which he describes as Afrobang. After making his mark behind the scenes as a manager for BrandUn DeShay, and an ad man at some of Chicago’s top ad agencies, Calid has successfully brought his musical talents to the spotlight.

Afrobang is inspired by his upbringing which is firmly rooted in what it means to be a black man in America today, but also reaches back to his father’s Cote D’Ivoirian origins. The energy behind Afrobang fuses together contemporary hip hop production elements like trap drums, synths, and 808s with the tribal percussions and chants from west Africa. However, Afrobang is more than music - it is a necessary movement, culture and community that Calid is building to help unite the African diaspora.

In the summer of 2016, Calid released his debut EP, also titled AfroBang, to much acclaim. The album soundtracked the summer with hits like “Gold” ft Sam Trump and Party Noire, and garnered press from the Chicago Tribune, HipHopDx, AllHipHop.com, TheseDays.news, and more.

Calid’s second album, AfroBang 2: The Son of Sogolon, dropped in August 2018, and has immediately gained praise for its message and production quality. Calid’s progression is evident with AfroBang 2, and features standout records like “Mansa Musa,” “Free The Watoto,” and “All Night Long,” that all speak to unifying the culture.
